Potassium carbonate (K₂CO₃) and zinc metal (Zn) are treated with excess dilute nitric acid in separate experiments.

State the expected observations and write balanced chemical equations to explain any reactions that take place. Give the chemical test(s) which may be used to identify any gases produced. Record your answer in a table using the headings: Test, Observations, Equations.
