Quelpr is a free practice site for Caribbean CSEC and CAPE students, built in Jamaica. This page explains what we store about you, why, who can see it, and how to delete it. If anything is unclear, email quelprja@gmail.com.
The short version
- We keep only what Quelpr needs to work: your sign-in, your subjects, and your answers and progress.
- Your country, school and exam year are optional. You can skip them or clear them at any time.
- We don't show ads, we don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we never sell your data.
- We only email you about new features if you ask us to, and you can stop any time.
- Your answers are sent to Google's Gemini AI so they can be marked.
- You can delete your account and everything in it yourself, at any time, from Account → Delete my account.
What we store
- From Google sign-in: your name, email address and a link to your profile picture. We never see your Google password.
- Your choices: whether you're sitting CSEC or CAPE, and which subjects you picked.
- Optional details: your country, school and exam year, only if you give them.
- Your work: the answers you submit, the marks and feedback they got, your progress on each topic, drills in progress, answers you saved to finish later, and whether you said an answer was marked fairly.
- Messages you send us through the Feedback button, and whether you said we may quote you.
- Evening reminders (optional): if you turn on “Remind me at 7pm” on a device, a notification address for that device from your browser, its time zone, the last day you practised and your streak length — so we remind you only on days you haven't practised. Turning reminders off or signing out on that device deletes it.
- Update emails (optional): if you sign up for news about new features, your email address, the first name you give (if any), where you signed up and when.
- Technical logs: like most websites, our hosting provider records basic request information (such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for) to keep the service running and secure.
If you use Scan my handwriting or answer by drawing, the picture is sent for reading or marking, but we don't keep the picture. We keep only what was read from it and the marks it got.
Why we use it
- To run Quelpr: mark your answers, show your progress, and keep your work in sync across your devices.
- To make Quelpr better, for example by checking answers that students said were marked unfairly.
- To understand our reach and impact using totals only, such as how many students use Quelpr in each country or how scores change with practice. We may share these totals with schools, partners or organisations that fund educational projects. They never name you or include your answers.
- To show your school's weekly total on your profile: how many questions students at your school answered this week, from how many students, and its rank among schools. Only students who gave that school see it, and it never shows any one student's name or numbers.
- To send occasional emails about new subjects, courses and features — only if you signed up for them.
- To quote what you told us, but only if you ticked “Quelpr may quote this”. We then use your first name and school at most.
Marking with AI
To mark a written answer, Quelpr sends the question, the mark scheme and your answer to Google's Gemini API. Handwriting scans and drawn answers go there too. Google's terms for the paid Gemini API say it doesn't use this content to improve its products. We don't send your name or email with your answers.
Where it's kept
Your account data is stored with Google Firebase, on Google Cloud servers in the United States. So that Quelpr works offline, a copy of your work and of the questions you've opened is also kept in your browser on each device you use. It stays there until you delete your account or clear this site's data in your browser settings. Sign-in uses your browser's storage to keep you signed in.
Who can see it
- You.
- The small Quelpr team, who can see student accounts and answers in order to run the service, fix problems and review marking.
- Google, which hosts Quelpr and provides the AI marking, as described above, and only to provide those services.
- Wix, which we use to send update emails: if you signed up for updates, it receives your email address and first name to send them. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Your browser's notification service (for example Google for Chrome, Apple for Safari), which delivers evening reminders if you turned them on. It receives the reminder text, not your name or answers.
Our public past-paper pages show past-paper questions only, never anything about you. We would share your personal data with anyone else only if the law required us to.
Students under 18
Quelpr is made for secondary-school students, so many of our users are under 18. That's why we ask for as little as possible and make the extra details optional. If you're a parent or guardian and want to see or delete your child's data, email quelprja@gmail.com and we'll help.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while you have an account. You can delete it at any time from Account → Delete my account. That immediately deletes your profile, answers, marks, progress, saved drafts, feedback messages and update-email sign-up, both on that device and in your account, and removes your sign-in. Totals already counted, such as “students in Jamaica”, don't identify you and aren't changed. Technical logs are deleted automatically by our hosting provider after a limited time.
Your choices and rights
- See or correct your details on the Account page. For a copy of everything we hold about you, email us.
- Delete your account yourself, or ask us to.
- Stop update emails with the unsubscribe link in any email, or on the Account page.
- Ask questions or complain: email quelprja@gmail.com. You can also contact the data protection authority where you live, such as Jamaica's Office of the Information Commissioner.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also tell you in the app.
