Figure 3 displays the beak depth distribution of medium ground finches on Daphne Major, a Galapagos island. Measurements were taken in 1976 (before selection) and again in 1978 (after a severe drought). Illustrations at the bottom show the beak depths of the initial and surviving populations.
With reference to average beak depth (indicated by the broken line in Figure 3) and nature of the frequency distributions of the two populations, determine what effect the drought had on the finch populations. Quote values where appropriate.
