A sample of solid sodium chloride (NaCl) was contaminated with iodine crystals (I₂). A student suggested separating iodine from sodium chloride by gently heating the mixture, as shown in Figure 3.

By comparing the forces of attraction between the NaCl particles and the I₂ molecules, explain why gentle heating is suitable for separating I₂ from a mixture of NaCl and I₂.
