Most of the water absorbed by plants is lost through transpiration. Figure 5 shows the effect on transpiration rates in two plants (same species) that grow in two different conditions: no soil water limitation and severe soil water limitation.

Using the data given in Figure 5, explain the effect of soil water availability on the transpiration rate of the plants investigated.
