Pair 2 consists of 1 mol dm⁻³ hydrochloric acid and 1 mol dm⁻³ ethanoic acid. The bulb glows for both substances, but glows more brightly for one.

Write a balanced ionic equation for the reaction occurring at the cathode for any of the substances in Pair 2.
