CSEC Chemistry · May/June 2010 · Paper 2 · Question 4(a)(ii)

A pink solution of aqueous acidified potassium manganate(VII) is decolourised by the addition of ferrous(Fe²⁺) ions. The chemical equation for the reaction is MnO₄⁻(aq) + 5 Fe²⁺(aq) + 8 H⁺(aq) → Mn²⁺(aq) + 5 Fe³⁺(aq) + 4 H₂O.

Iron(II) oxide reacts with dilute sulphuric acid to give a pale green solution. Write the equation for the reaction between iron(II) oxide and dilute sulphuric acid.

The mark scheme is shown once you've answered.
