A diagram shows two rectangles, ABCD and GFED. ABCD has an area of 44 cm². GFED has sides 4 cm and 2 cm. AG = EC = 3x cm.

By writing an expression for the area of rectangle ABCD, show that x² + 2x - 4 = 0.
