CSEC Physics · May/June 2019 · Paper 2 · Question 3(c)(ii)

A student conducted an experiment where 1.5 kg of water at 30 °C was converted to steam at 100 °C. Assume no heat is lost to the surroundings. Specific heat capacity of water, c = 4200 J kg⁻¹ K⁻¹. Specific latent heat of vaporization of water, lv = 2.3 × 10⁶ J K⁻¹.

Calculate the amount of energy needed to convert the water at 100 °C to steam at 100 °C.
