A 3 μF capacitor is charged to a p.d. of 200 V, and a 1 μF capacitor is charged to a p.d. of 100 V. The capacitors are joined by wires of negligible resistance with plates of like charge connected together.

Calculate the total energy stored in the capacitors when they are connected together.
