Experiment 1 investigates the heat of neutralization between potassium hydroxide and dilute hydrochloric acid. Various volumes of 0.1 M hydrochloric acid are added to 25 cm³ of aqueous potassium hydroxide in a plastic cup. The mixture is stirred, and the highest temperature reached after each addition is recorded. The results are presented in Table 1.
Calculate the heat change at the point of neutralization for the reaction between potassium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid. [The specific heat capacity of solution is 4.2 kJkg⁻¹ °C⁻¹. Assume that the density of the solution is 1 g cm⁻³, ∆H = m x c × ∆T.]
