CAPE Applied Mathematics Unit 2 · 2016 · Paper 2 · Question 6(c)(iii)

Vehicle A (mass 3000 kg, initial speed 2 m s⁻¹) collides head-on with Vehicle B (mass 5000 kg, initial speed 1 m s⁻¹). After collision, vehicle A continues in its original direction at 1.5 m s⁻¹ and is subsequently brought to rest by a 150 N frictional force.

Calculate the time taken for vehicle A to come to rest after the collision.
