Iron is extracted from its ore (Fe₂O₃) by thermal reduction using carbon monoxide.

Carbon and carbon monoxide are both able to reduce the oxide ore to produce iron. Suggest a suitable explanation why carbon monoxide is used to reduce the iron ore instead of carbon.
