Figure 7 shows an experiment with five rods of different materials heated in boiling water, each with a thumbtack attached by wax. The order the thumbtacks fall off is C, then A, then D, then B, then E.
Explain why the water is constantly heated throughout the experiment instead of placing the rods in boiling water without a flame.
