An artificial lipid vesicle with a proton pump and ATP synthase is used to pump hydrogen ions into the vesicle to create a gradient, which diffuse out through ATP synthase to produce ATP. What conclusion can be drawn about the conditions necessary for ATP synthase to form ATP?
