CSEC Chemistry · May/June 2009 · Paper 2 · Question 1(a)(i)b)

A student investigates temperature changes when powdered zinc is added to 100 cm³ of 0.20 mol dm⁻³ copper(II) sulphate. The apparatus is shown in Figure 1. The reaction is Zn(s) + CuSO₄(aq) → ZnSO₄(aq) + Cu(s).

What does the observation you described in a) above indicate about the relative positions of zinc and copper in the reactivity series?

This question uses a figure or table from the paper — you'll see it when you practise.

The mark scheme is shown once you've answered.
