CSEC Chemistry · May/June 2012 · Paper 2 · Question 4(b)(iii)

The properties of elements can be explained based on their electronic configuration and hence their position in the Periodic Table. The electronic configurations of four elements P, Q, R and S are: P: 2, 7; Q: 2, 8, 2; R: 2, 8, 6; S: 2, 8, 8, 2.

Compare the reactivity of EACH of elements Q and S with dilute hydrochloric acid. Write a balanced equation for EITHER of these reactions with dilute hydrochloric acid.

The mark scheme is shown once you've answered.
