Many years ago, car exhaust fumes were known to contain compounds of metals and non-metals, which could negatively impact both humans and the environment.

Identify ONE metal and ONE nonmetal whose compounds were present in car exhaust fumes. Discuss the effect of these compounds on human health and the environment.
