An experiment uses a small disk of mass m on a frictionless table attached to a string passing through a tube to a hanging mass M, revolving in a horizontal circle of radius r with period T (Figure 1).
Show that the relationship between the period, T, the radius, r, and the masses, m and M, is given by T = 2π √(mr / Mg).
