The general equation for a travelling wave is y = A₀ sin ( (2π/λ) x + 2πft) where A₀ is the amplitude, λ is the wavelength and f is the frequency of the wave. A sound wave is represented by the following equation: y = 5 × 10⁻⁴ sin (740x + 251300t), where x and y are measured in metres and t is measured in seconds.
