CAPE Physics Unit 1 · 2001 · Paper 2 · Question 4(c)(ii)

A car of mass 1.5 x 10³ kg increases its speed from 10 m s⁻¹ to 30 m s⁻¹ while moving 400 m up a hill inclined at an angle α to the horizontal, where sin α = 1/10. A constant frictional force of 200 N resists the car's motion.

From an energy consideration, calculate the driving force of the engine.
