CAPE Applied Mathematics Unit 2 · 2008 (second paper) · Paper 2 · Question 5(b)(i)

A vehicle of mass 6000 kg travelling along a straight road with velocity 2.5 m s^-1 collides with another vehicle of mass 2000 kg moving in the same direction with velocity 1.3 m s^-1. After impact, the vehicles coalesce and move as a single unit.

Calculate the kinetic energy after impact.
