When carbon-14 decays by β emission, it becomes an isotope of nitrogen. The mass of a carbon-14 nucleus is 2.324538 × 10⁻²⁶ kg, and the mass of a nitrogen-14 nucleus is 2.324510 × 10⁻²⁶ kg.
