CAPE Computer Science Unit 2 · 2015 · Paper 2 · Question 3(d)

A clinic, New Smiles, operates in Happy Ville. Patients call to book an appointment with Dr Sam. The receptionist checks the patient database by name; if the record does not exist, a new patient record (name, phone number, address, brief medical history) is created. The patient then submits a preferred date/time, the receptionist checks the appointment database for availability, and books/returns a suitable appointment. Daily, a list of upcoming appointments is generated from the appointment database so the receptionist can call patients with reminders.

Draw a Level-0 data flow diagram (DFD) to represent the flow of data described in the clinic scenario.

The mark scheme is shown once you've answered.
