CAPE Chemistry Unit 2 · May/June 2026 · Paper 2 · Question 2(b)

In an experiment, 2.70 g of a CuSO4•xH2O when heated at 200 °C for 30 min gave a white solid CuSO4 (RMM = 159.6) of mass 1.51 g.

Use the information above to determine the chemical formula of the hydrate of CuSO4, that is, the x in CuSO4•xH2O.

The mark scheme is shown once you've answered.
