CAPE Applied Mathematics Unit 2 · 2015 · Paper 2 · Question 6(c)

Block A of mass 3M kg rests on a smooth table top connected by a light inextensible string of length 1.2 m passing over a smooth pulley at the edge to block B of mass 1.5M kg hanging freely. Block A is initially held 0.9 m from the edge. Using the principle of conservation of mechanical energy, find the speed of block A when it reaches the edge of the table.
