Two experiments were set up as shown in Figure 3. Experiment 1: A zinc rod is immersed in magnesium(II) sulfate solution. Experiment 2: A zinc rod is immersed in copper(II) sulfate solution. In Experiment 1, no visible change was observed, while in Experiment 2, a brown solid settled to the bottom.

Explain the observations from BOTH experiments.
