Figure 3 shows a simple respirometer setup to determine the rate of respiration in germinating beans. The procedure involves assembling the respirometer with soda lime, removing the testa from germinating beans A and B, placing 5g of bean A in a syringe, drawing coloured water into the respirometer, noting its position, and recording movement at one-minute intervals for four minutes. The experiment is repeated with germinating bean B.
