This section covers kinetics and equilibria. The reaction between butyl chloride (C₄H₉Cl) and water is investigated to determine the effect of concentration on reaction rates. A 0.100 mol dm⁻³ aqueous solution of butyl chloride is reacted with water, and its concentration is measured at various time intervals, as shown in Table 2.

On the grid provided on page 7, plot a graph of the concentration of butyl chloride, [C₄H₉Cl] on the y-axis against time in seconds, on the x-axis.
