CAPE Chemistry Unit 1 · 2014 · Paper 2 · Question 1(b)(i)b)

A metal carbonate, M₂CO₃, reacts with hydrochloric acid according to the equation: M₂CO₃(aq) + 2HCl(aq) → 2MCl(aq) + CO₂(g) + H₂O(l). A solution was prepared by dissolving 6.125 g of M₂CO₃ in 1 dm³ of water. 40 cm³ of this solution neutralized 23.6 cm³ of 0.150 mol dm⁻³ hydrochloric acid.

Calculate the relative molecular mass of M₂CO₃.
