CAPE Chemistry Unit 1 · 2006 · Paper 2 · Question 8(b)(ii)

In the above experiment a top loading balance is used to weigh the sodium chloride sample and a 250 cm³ beaker is used to measure the volume of water. The thermometer readings are measured within ± 0.5 °C.

Give TWO reasons for calibrating an instrument such as a thermometer and suggest TWO steps involved.
