A piece of zinc metal was added to an aqueous solution of copper (II) sulfate in a test tube, resulting in the chemical reaction: Zn(s) + CuSO₄(aq) → ZnSO₄(aq) + Cu(s).

Describe what is observed with regard to the chemical reaction that occurs in the test tube.
