CAPE Physics Unit 1 · 2003 · Paper 2 · Question 1(a)

An apparatus with an electromagnet, steel ball, and metal plate is used to determine the acceleration due to gravity. The electromagnet is turned off, starting a timer, and the ball drops 65.0 cm to hit the metal plate, stopping the timer. Four trials recorded times: 0.361 s, 0.383 s, 0.374 s, 0.365 s.

Determine the average of these results and write down the value of the time that should be used in calculations. Include an estimate of the uncertainty in this value.
