Students conducted an experiment to determine the melting point of an unknown solid, A. They used the apparatus shown in Figure 1, heating water to 80 °C with a Bunsen burner, then turning it off and recording temperature readings every minute for 10 minutes. Figure 2 shows some of the thermometer readings.
State ONE precaution, other than wearing safety apparel, which should be taken during this experiment to avoid injury to the face or hands.
